Just a Little Kindness

Just a Little Kindness
Just a Little Kindness

Kindness is always a surprise,
a colored rise of heart,
a soul imbued with hopeful gaze,
and I a smile a mile wide,
cannot hide my glee,
when someone’s kindness
finds the heart of me,
no strings attached
and all the giving free.

Yet finding it difficult,
lives so afraid of untrustworthy souls,
who’ll rob you blind
and cold the winds of circumstance,
that sets our nature to be weary,
unconnected and aloof,
instead of caring, open and true,
freely giving and kindness all we do,
in living with one another.

Our fears are warranted,
given this day and age,
yet if we show no kindness,
what will the future be,
cold and alone, no connection
and no community shall we see,
our mediocre lives of complicity,
without emotions or love,
a travesty of being.

Test the waters, smile, accept,
and kindness will reveal itself,
for what a better way to live,
in acceptance and sharing our moments,
our struggles and heartbreaks,
our loves and successes in life,
for what are we without one another
but islands surrounded by troubled seas,
and together we may rise to overcome our fears.

Without connection we become pariahs,
disconnected in mind
and lost to stagnation,
where fear shields us from reality,
and reality become a distorted face of reflection,
too far from truth, denial and delusion
take hold and we are alone,
wrapped in sorrow,
blinded to light.

Alone is never a way to live life. Like you said we become islands. Like Phyllis said, a random act of kindness is a truly welcomed and wonderful gift. Give and ye shall receive. Nice work my friend.

Nothing more to add to the two comments above, alone I live, lonely I am not, yet hopeful through my kindness shown to my fellow man. Beautifully penned my friend, may you always be kind and feel it in return from mankind and loving pets such as Beast.
