Freedom’s Knell

Freedom's Knell
Freedom’s Knell

We free ourselves, we tether ourselves,
and no blame or deflection can remedy
the choices we make,
for limits are subjective and
tis our understanding that holds them in place,
while freedom beckons us to be.

The mind is life, our perceptions and beliefs
the very basis of reality,
so to accept freedom is to accept possibility,
unrestricted and open to chance
as well as a mind honing wanted outcomes
to experience life in fullness.

We are born with innate control,
over our thoughts and actions,
yet who takes control in the unfolding of circumstance,
who lets freedom unlimited by fear
to thrive in possibility and in our hands,
acquire our dreams.

We are our own antagonist, our worst enemy,
our closest ally and a potential unlimited,
and within our struggle we vacillate
between the two states,
undulating between fear and doubt,
and the conviction that can deliver us.

True freedom is letting life be,
not pushing agendas but accepting truth
and allowing life to unfold without prejudice,
biases and predilections that placate the flow in life,
the very stumbling blocks of stagnancy,
that keep us bound by our fears.

Is it not happiness we seek:
that alone a miracle of being,
yet it is but a choice,
not driven by any circumstance
but accepted as a state of living,
and the sooner we just be happy
the greater the freedom afforded,
until we are no longer attached to our fear?

Beautiful piece, Tony. I believe happiness is met when all within is centered and at peace with all that is and we no longer fear. There are so many things we need not fear – such as letting go and letting be. I remember how frightened I used to be when my children grew to be on their own, I feared for their safety and well being day and night. Once I accepted the fact that they were capable of surviving without me by their side, I relaxed. I became free when I allowed them to be free. It is the same for all things in life. Great work, Tony.
