Fading Star – Hope
Fading Star…
Surging the night sky, where certain want is welcomed.
Drifting eyes rake the velvet waves, in tumult, the stars—
above the trees like diamonds…their luster seldom
trumped, like beacons in the sky they guide from afar.
But up in the void, lies a space, where they fall apart,
Their atoms shifting fast, running from the reapers veil.
Now unchained about like an unrequited heart,
One more dance in the night it needs before God exhales.
The light resonates, softly wanes, and slowly descends.
And upon that plunging tail, a wish from a woe,
as the reaper, even claiming his celestial friends,
where life moves on, hides just like a rogue in shadow—
Somehow though, they respawn, waging war against night,
Against the feathers of darkness; its life is nothing
then it is all; glorious and reborn as light,
nothing wasted just channeled to become something.
And sometimes I need you to let me be alone there,
There, in that darkness, with your unquestioning hand
Helping my soul be reborn in your warmth and care
because I am a fading star who needs a plan—
To rise like a Phoenix in the Cimmerian waves
To balance the dark words beset upon the page
Where the clarity of a blank slate, is not a grave
but a fair residence where we both can engage.
I need you there…between the shadow and the soul
Love me there…in my most vulnerable place.
Then when you’re done, place me back into the charcoal
Sky, and let me burn strong to gleam on another’s face.

Deeply meaningful and beautiful, Paul. May you always burn strong and shine brightly. Great work.
Thank you so much Phyllis, I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Beautifully expressed, we all are a fading star, yet HOPE is eternal. Feeling the LOVE of one most closest to us is perfection. Your last stanza summed it up for me, very penetrating verse my friend. May you never fade, stay hopeful and let the LOVE flow through and into your eternal soul.
You do the same my friend and thank you for your kind words. They are much appreciated.
Beautiful phrasing and word play Paul, and as always a consummate expression, deeply emotive and thought-provoking: light in eternity. Cheers!
Thank you so much Tony, I do appreciate your words.
