In the Shadow of a Dark Self, Desperation

In the Shadow of a Dark Self, Desperation
In the Shadow of a Dark Self, Desperation

How quickly people turn,
cross them at all
and the fires of hell then discern,
our next punishment for non-compliance,
yet these souls are not the police,
nor stalwarts of justice,
just fragile egos lost within themselves,
fronts of vile indignation,
the protection of their weakness
and ineptitude, that steely exterior just glass
to be shattered when caught,
then tears of a victim, flow like rivers of denial,
that they themselves are the problem,
and their blame just a stance of irresponsibility.

Often stated of others,
their problems in transference,
the only remedy professional help,
for they can never see the truth,
for it reveals their ruse and the plans they contrive
in protection of their dark secrets,
secrets they hold in desperation,
to hold onto just a glimmer of goodness,
a sliver of the positive, unknown in life,
as they remain the victim
of their misery and strife,
propagated by delusions of self,
wanted beliefs that give tenuous hold to life,
as they travail their own insecurity.
