Seeking Inspiration

On and on through time,

the mighty pen has served him well,

creating poetic words –

that steal the heart away.

Seeking inspiration,

often long into the night,

many memories came flooding back –

the words just beyond reach.

There never was a time,

that there was no rhyme

and eagerly he worked,

as the pen flashed,

to get all of his emotions –

laid out for the world to see.

It was one day,

that suddenly the poet had nothing to say,

his muses remained silent

and he wanted to cry,

but rather than lay down and die –

he cast his pen aside.

Went walking down the road,

to seek inspiration,

he heard the muses whispering in his ears,

of the clouds and the sky,

the coming of the spring

and the flowers by the roadside.

It was at this time,

that he remembered a summer love,

so very long ago

and he had to smile.

With the coming of spring,

there was the promise of a new love,

once summer came dancing across the meadow.

His mind heard the muses begin to sing,

sweet love songs,

from so long ago.

As the day turned to afternoon

and the shadows grew long,

the poet returned to paper and pen.

Soon he had a poem,

that sung of nature

and things that filled the soul,

of the wonder of love

and the happiness it brought.

Once done he was satisfied,

he laid his pen down,

poured some wine,

held up his glass to the night sky –

as the muses nodded and smiled.
