Professional Victim – The Sowing of False Seeds

They’ve been wronged; can’t you see?
Thus demanding all your sympathies
Everyone’s attention; in the highest degree
To smooth and sooth their so-called “injuries”

Spouting on and on about the mysteries
Assigned to their new-found disabilities
Of course to which; no one else can see
They’re only preying on our human decency

A practiced game; played again and again
Carefully worded until it worked on most men
Tales of such horror, such abuse, and such sin
Seeming so humble, playing the sadness violin

But the curious ask; what’s the strategy?
Attention seeking, manipulation, or pure pity
False coping, or something a bit more nefariously?
Most likely for their gain, of course, materially..

The narrative is plain to see…
“Look at me, look at me”
“Everyone I knew was mean and nasty”
“So I had to leave; can you please help me?”

But notice how there is no paper trail
Nothing but scary stories and slanted tales
Of such despicable treatment by the meanies
Who ganged up and attacked unmercifully

Where are those faces without names?
Attackers who tried to bring her shame?
Criminals with no one else to frame?
And somehow she rose above to find some “fame”

We’ve all been taken by this pretend victim
Suckered by the exaggerations
The distortions and invented situations
Shameless arrogance and manipulations

And when the upended tables finally turn
Facts and actions are quickly overturned
Escape, evade, then slash and burn
A quick reappearance, and suddenly transformed

The same old stories, the lengthy lies
The sadness, woe, and times she cried
I’m sure each failure is another addition
In that sad girl’s life; her living fiction…

The Professional Victim

Playing the victim is very common in today’s world, as the demand for attention seems to rise higher and higher.  This type of fabrication is used as a way to abuse others, get attention or personal gain (usually financial), to manipulate others for fun, or as a coping strategy.

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

Well stated Ralph and as you say, common. Victims are of many kinds but ultimately they are all manipulators for their own advantage. Great work.

Oh my gosh! The things some people believe when they see tears … unbelievable! I so recognize this ‘professional victim’ type. Excellent phrasing, Ralph. Spot on, dear poet. Kudos!

The world is quickly filling up with these so-called “victims” – yet in reality, they are just very fragile people who never learned that everything in life isn’t free and to rise to the top requires hard work, facing failures, and to stop blaming others for everything that they assume goes wrong in their life.

I read between the lines and find victims of these kinds closer than we think, they continue on their path of “wow is me” and I have been wronged, then go on a path of destruction. Making themselves out to be the truly wronged victim of mental or physical abuse, yet mocking the truest meaning of being victimized. We can find these types on all over the Net, my advice is to cut them short, stay far away and don’t get caught up in their web of false allegations. For if there was truth, they wouldn’t be always looking for both empathy and SYMPATHY, begging for attention from others, yet themselves attempting to harm each person they come into contact with. On a path of destruction, begging for attention, with the hope that we will join their forces of haters. This was well expressed Ralph and I hope that your message found it’s target to those who choose to be so called “Victims”

I am glad you wrote this Ralph, and most of us can read between the lines to know the person it is referring to. I have to admit to at first being deceived until the lies and innuendos began to flow in other places on the Internet. I tried to correct the lies as did others but my comments were not approved so the truth could be told. the best way to fight is to publish alternative works explaining the other side and the truth which you have done here, and Phillis has done elsewhere. Well written as a fine piece of poetry.

Hopefully the few who are still caught in that web can be saved before they’re in a compromising situation. Nothing I’d put past a professional victim – it’s all about them.
