Deep Primal Forest of Ancient Faces

Deep Primal Forest ….

deep primal forest
Deep primal forest …

In deep primal forest of ancient faces,
Hushed voices be heard from unseen places,
Dark forest lead my way to paths of old,
Known from the ancient words of tales told,
Be ye not shackles or chain, nor forbid,
I follow the path where the Old Ones hid,
Deep in the woods back in the dark days,
And there I will learn of the ancient ways,
To heal myself and enter the flow,
As I dwell in the depths of Nature’s soul.

And the Maiden journeys through the stages,
Passed down in secret rights through the ages,
Blessed be her path of learning, growing,
As Mother teaches the art of knowing,
The ways and use of herbs, magical plants,
And to the plant spirits, magical chants,
The ways to gather perfect selection,
To help others and personal protection,
To always be true, and be charmingly,
Thy Self, feminine, soft and womanly.

Yet, be aware of personal powers,
Grandmother says, in your darker hours,
Know ye when to use them, choose wisely each,
Grow spiritually and you, too, shall teach,
The ways of the Old Ones, the moon and stars,
Be ye known good widely for who you are,
Ye be young, womanly, wise, free spirit,
Guard these gifts well with honor, now hear it.

And the Maiden journeys through the stages,
Passed down in secret rights through the ages.
In the deep primal forest of ancient faces.

I am an author on TCE and write mainly in poetry and short stories. I have always liked to write. It is important to me that writing comes from my heart and soul. When writing poetry, if I do not feel a spiritual connection to what I am writing on, I will discard it and go on to something I can connect with on a spiritual level. I live in the moment, I write from the past or beyond the veil. When writing fiction I go with whatever inspires me at the moment - it could be funny, sorrowful, romantic or sometimes done with the use of colloquial language from mountain folk or other cultural regions. I began writing content online in 2007, starting with BellaOnline - A Voice For Women, where I was the Native American Editor, Folklore & Mythology Editor, and the Appalachian Editor. I also wrote articles for The Examiner, Daily Two Cents, and Yahoo. I am currently an author on HubPages. Most of what I write takes a lot of research and I love it. Even if it is a fictional story, I will research for accuracy in whatever it takes to make my characters, their era, their location, etc. become realistic to the reader. I hope you enjoy my works. Thank you for visiting.

And the ancients knew more than we do today, much of our medicines created synthetically from the original sources. There is much to learn from our ancestors. Well penned and thought-provoking Phyllis. Cheers!

The ancients I believe were much wiser than we are today – they took the time to understand nature in all of its glory – so unlike the instant gratification of todays society. Sometimes I wished I walked the path of those long ago ancients. I loved this piece Phyllis.

Thank you so much, Kurt. You are right, the ancients knew a lot more than we do today. So much wisdom has been lost over the centuries. I am pleased you enjoyed this piece.

Yeah I agree with Kurt and Tony. Nature is here for the taking and we are a society have all but forgotten these treasures we were given. It was life in its purest form living off the land, understanding the bond between nature and humanity, and we have clearly forgotten this. Great piece Phyllis, nice flow, great topic. Nice work.

Isn’t it amazing Phyllis at how the modern world seems to time and time again ignore the ancient wisdom for some flash-bang solution that usually ends up doing nothing? “To Heal Myself….” is such a poignant statement; one we all should reflect upon.

Yes, Ralph, it is actually astounding! I love visiting my herbalist who will provide me with the herbs I need. I do wish I lived in the forest, though! I am pleased you appreciate the poem. Thank you.
