The Art of Drowning

Drowning in our deceit…
I float upon the refuse,
the cluttered life decay,
those wasted thoughts, fallen dreams
by reckless deeds of prey,
and nothing seems to rid this plight,
this aftermath of human life,
when nature walks in sacred paths
and men break rules as if an art,
in squalor do we live.
The filth of lies and dark deceit,
is drowning life, we cannot breathe,
surrounded by such selfish ploys,
no righteous man could employ
a path of such destruction,
our function barely felt,
no balance found,
while hate abounds
in streets of discontent.
Love struggles in the light,
floating on this tenuous drift,
the shattered hopes from aphonic lips,
trying to speak for right,
yet the filth, so weighted pulls us down,
the darkness of minds still surrounds,
and if that light above does dim,
we’ll all be drowned in putrid sin,
then, what becomes of humanity?

A true definition of drowning in our hearts and souls. The physical aspect of committing the act is the final straw. Yet we drown day by day in our thoughts and actions, taken or not. “The filth of lies and dark deceit,is drowning life, we cannot breathe, surrounded by such selfish ploys,” How very true my friend. You’ve captured it exactly with your colorful depressing verse. Bravo
Thanks Vincent, it is depressing but truth never has to be clothed in acceptance. Cheers!
Humanity has a choice and there is still hope that the light and love will grow and survive. Your words are a powerful reminder that humanity needs to open their eyes and hearts to crawl out of the indifference. Great work, Tony.
Much appreciated Phyllis, yes, we are sinking fast. Something has to give. Cheers!~
I feel like I need a bath after reading that. We’re some messed up kind of a group aren’t we humans? Well written and powerful Tony – thanks for sharing!
My pleasure Ralph and glad you appreciated the work my friend. Cheers!
