Captive by My Own State of Mind

Captive by my worried thoughts,
my world is colored by doubt,
and tethered I remain until
I find the freedom of decision,
regardless of uncertainty,
to play the hand I’m dealt,
and accept the consequence.
Yet doubt yields shaky ground,
and thoughts unstable upon it
give rise to feared expectations,
our fears resolved,
and our plans forsaken,
until we invest in choices
and become responsible for them.
We choose, we give rise to consequence,
and refusing to take responsibility
is a path of disaster,
a refusal to learn and an arrogance
that will in time erode the self,
a mind on the run,
unwilling to face reality.
Free and clear of captivity,
a mind responds and experiences the path,
whatever that may be,
for the souls requires the experience,
and in acceptance, our travail is under open skies,
fewer obstacles
and a broader perception of life’s movement.

Yes, we do “choose and give rise to the consequence.” I chose my path, and with honesty, sincerity, I follow it for the betterment of my soul, the truths in my heart. I love this verse of yours, Tony. Great work as always.
