The Warmest Smile

A grandma’s smile –

is like the brightest sun,

always the warmest smile

and so full of love.

So many years ago, grandma

the angels took you away.

There’ll always be a place in my heart,

just for you.

You came to us,

from another world,

having lived through trying times

and war and occupation.

For awhile I thought,

you were just a photograph,

smiling at me –

from a silver frame.

Then one day you arrived,

like stepping out of a dream,

smiling so brightly –

loving me so completely.

You made my childhood days,

filled with caring and joy.

You always knew –

your warm smile would make me feel so good.

I always remember you most,

upon your April birthday –

that makes it so very special.

I know that you are always,

looking out for me from up above.

I wish all the very special things for you,

in you heavenly home.

Know that you are truly missed

and loved by me here below.

Whenever the sun shines –

in a clear blue sky,

when the days get warmer,

in the springtime.

I remember your warm smile

and how you always loved me,

made sure that every little thing –

was just right in my child’s world.

So I write these lines –

to your memory

and as I look up at the skies,

I smile back at you with my warmest smile.

Rasma, your memoir is a lovely tribute to your Grandma. Such a lovely lady. I felt a warm glow in my heart when I read this – it reminds me of my Grandma. Beautifully penned work.

Thank you Phyllis. She left this world when I was eight I believe and I do have many memories of her and yet, in some ways being so young she seems like a dream to me.

All grandma’s are missed, I have a couple of my own in heavenly surroundings I’m certain. I too remember all the doting my grandmas’s did over their grandchildren and with very fond memories like to reflect from time to time. I could smell their apple pies in the ovens, their caring hands as they reached out to hug me and the little gift surprises now and then they gave out to us all. So Rasma this is a wonderful dedication to your loving grandma, nicely expressed dear poet.

Lovely tribute to grandma Rasma. Whenever you leave them you always feel good about yourself. So it goes in saying that their memory should bring happiness to any day as well. I barely knew my grandma but my grandpa was a special one for me. Very well penned Rasma, nice work.
