‘Kind Freedom’
Most take freedom for granted, usually without any thought of what loss of that freedom truly represents to any living creature, forced to live within the limitations of such boundaries. Kind Freedom explores the loss of freedom from a dog’s perspective, perhaps one that reflects the thoughts of any neglected animal entrapped within the constraints imposed by mankind’s belief and ignorance of his own significance. How hard is it really to respect the lives of other creatures that share this planet with us? How hard is it really to care enough, or to understand the true value of other life? Please enjoy the message within Kind Freedom…
‘Kind Freedom’
His entire world measures less than two meters square
But still; he can hear the rain on the roof of his home
Feel the wind of every day race through his receding hair
Enjoy the pleasure of digging snow from his entrance-way
And know that the concrete floor beneath him is secure
Who would have known;
gone are the bright memories once dwelling in his eyes
of days chasing water foul,
purposefully galloping through endless open fields
of knowing every scent, every tree,
the love of every eager kindness shown
“But still,” he reflects each day,
“My teeth are stronger than this chain!”
Did you know it was announced today;
that all prisoners will soon have internet access…

Oh! How very pleased I am, Rob, to see you got the first of your “packers up” ! This is a great introduction and poem. It is so heartbreaking to see an animal chained and or penned up. Freedom is such a blessed gift, a moral right, and no animal should have any less than freedom and love. Thank you for sharing this piece in masterful penning.
Welcome to TCE, dear poet.
Hi Phyllis, hahaha I won’t tell anyone about that! Thank you so much for your warm welcome and good luck with your sea eagles. This was a special piece for me and was one of the first written and accepted for a significant journal. Glad you enjoyed it Phyllis, thank you so much for your positive review. I look forward to posting more works on TCE and a mutually beneficial relationship… cheers for all your help to date.. take care.
This poem moved me immensely and brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem, and being a voice to those who have none of their own. I wish I could help the helpless, but even if I cannot help all of them, just helping a few makes a difference, I know.
Tamara
Hi Tamara, thank you for that. I was brought up on an island with only my family and nature to rely upon, nature’s creatures helped create the person I became.. giving back a few words to bring awareness of their lives is the least I can do. Glad you enjoyed kind freedom.. it was published in New York last year, but nowhere else. I appreciate your review and support Tamara… Take care
Welcome to the site Rob – if the rest of your contributions are as great as this one, you’ll certainly be one of our most read authors. Let me know if you need anything.
Thank you so much RJ (good initials those). I truly appreciate your glowing review and yes I have a great deal poems to submit. I have no specific style and have writing across the board from fibs – free verse in my learning process. TCE site is pretty easy to navigate RJ and I’m very pleased to be able to apply my own graphics (my second love) to anything I publish. Once again cheers – take care…. Rob J Welsh (lol)
Welcome Rob, nice to see you’ve entered your first masterpiece here at Creative Exiles. Let me tell you that every Vegan would love your opening stanza. For freedom of all animals should be their right as it is ours. Yet mankind chooses to eliminate 70 billion animals a year for the carnivorous greed of man, who by our very nature are not born carnivores. How sad we differentiate and exclude certain animals, like dogs, cats, horses and some birds to call them our PETS. Yet slaughter in some of the most inhumane ways cows, pigs, chickens, sheep and lambs. I feel the pain within your beautiful verse, of losing a pet, one that we care for so much, yet no consideration of loss is given to the animals we choose to devour. How sad, how sad. Phyllis nailed her feelings of how heartbreaking it is to see animals chained up and penned.There are billions of them treated that way daily, diseased, sick, filled with antibiotics and ultimately led to slaughter. Yes indeed freedom is such a blessed gift, a moral right. I just wish the world would look at it that way, I’m a strong believer in animal rights, ALL ANIMALS in our world. Maybe, just maybe the louder we scream and holler, there will be changes made to the Meat Industry for good and stop the INHUMANE SLAUGHTER to loving animals. Well written my poetic friend. You clinched it with your last stanza. It sickens me the freedoms that HUMAN PRISONERS are given, the Internet and much, much more. Yet we continually lock up, maltreat, underfeed, harm, abuse and ultimately slaughter loving, intelligent animals to feed human appetite for dead meat. Peace my brother, Bravo and kudos on your first entry.
Why thank you kind sir. I always appreciate the value of your words and your reviews Vincent. I haven’t forgotten your recipes btw though I fear their penmanship will be incredibly bland, which I promise will not detract from the taste. Thank you so much for your warm welcome and long serving faith in my writing my friend… more to follow. Take care up there, your warmth has eased my Winter chill.
And, I just love the puppy artwork, too…
That is Mac… he is completely spoiled and a very deep thinker… totally unaware I captured thoughts.
Brilliant! Hello, Dearest Mac! 🙂
great work Rob, and I don’t understand anyone who would treat any animal with disrespect or at least not consider any life important. I’m surrounded by animals whom I love deeply and care for with great loyalty. All life is precious to me, and I enjoyed this poem very much my friend.
Thank you Rob, creative writing at it most compelling. Chris.
Thank you for such a positive review Chris, glad you enjoyed it… take care
It’s always a treat to read your work, my friend!
Nellieanna, how nice to see you again after my surfacing from being AWOL for so long. Thank you for remembering me and appreciating the small merits offered by my toils. I hope you are well and life is behaving itself for you. I always feel honored to know my works have fitted into your day… You take care and cheers..
