Embracing Time
Embracing Time
The world is nothing but some paint
A canvas charged of kindling signals
Inside the brain they do acquaint,
Vacillating, they tend to mingle.
As we are birthed into this earth
The equal factor bestowed is time
Day by day we adjust for worth
Mindful that squandering is a crime
Though not all art is built to hang
In atriums unchanged forever
Time is like a feral wolf whose fangs
Will sate then fade away a beggar.
With eighty six thousand four hundred–
Momentous seconds, we will reset
Each day anew to be refunded
then stocked with choices and regrets
How futile when it goes to waste
Forgotten in the shadows past
And bungled more when used in haste
As time pervades the space it casts
How worthy is the year spent
If one had failed to show success
How precious is a month’s extent?
When cancer ravages the chest
In days we count the moments shared
To find out what “I do” defines
and grasp the might an hour bears
Just ask the part time dad his lines
To see the worth one second holds
Ask of the man who saved your breath
A microcosmic deed so bold,
The space betwixt a life and death
As mud puppets to futile dreams
Some stand there with a sundered tongue
Capitulated to wasteful means,
Sobbing when the final bell is rung
But, if you enjoyed the time you waste
Then none can call it wasted time
Employed in moments then embraced
in memories, triumphs the mind
But still a pebble crafts a ripple
when cast into the seas of time.
As time should not be spent on quibbles,
nobler used embracing life full-time.
When asked of time within your day
And you search high, the nearest clock.
Tis life whom you cannot repay
as someone with and unused smock.
But like the fruits of any tree
Our lives are just a fleeting quest
Time cares not what your opinions be,
Just try to use her service best.

Paul what a wonderful collage of verses on time. Your concoction was dizzying to say the least. Your talented display took my breath away, but thankfully it returned. If only more humans knew the importance of time and how fleeting it truly is. I know that first hand as I’m ageing, I reflect back on memories as if they just happened. Time indeed does not wait for no man, it ticks away quietly and deliberately without giving much notice or adieu, but when we use it up, there is no more to give us. We can’t buy it back for any amount of money on earth. So I try to use it wisely and to my advantage, every, second, minute and hour of my day. Beautifully written Paul, I really like this presentation by you dear poet.
We are perishable. It is how we mature and ripen in the time we have that matters. Thank you so much for your kind words Vincent. Keep embracing your time, I am glad you enjoyed this.
“Like as the waves make towards the pebbl’d shore, so do our minutes, hasten to their end.”
– William Shakespeare
Live in the moment, live every moment with love. I enjoyed this verse very much, Paul. Well done, dear poet.
Absolutely Phyllis. That was an amazing quote. I am glad you enjoyed this. Much appreciation.
A wonderful rendition of our perceptions and experiences in life, ruled by that enigma, time. We are so judgmental and what we judge then becomes the parameter of experience, thus limiting our lives because of our notions. Time is our invention and the only way to not be limited by it is to abandon it; not an easy thing to do in this age. But should we do that we can experience shifts in time and its extremities beyond our imaginings. Some great phrasing Paul, unique and evocative. Great work as always my friend.
Thank you so much Tony. Time is the one thing we cannot hasten or convince to slow. It just is. And when it is no more, is a crossroads we won’t know. Thank you so much for your kind words my friend.
Nice piece. You added so many great ways to look at time and it’s ticking away, that I had to read it twice
Your eloquent passage through time, exploring those different requiems we sate ourselves with, is expansively exquisite…as always.
I have found a new home, at Writer’s Café…as have several former WN writers.
It is kind of crappy that there was no fair warning about WN. So I am curious what happens to all those poems and writings left on that site. I better not see any of my stuff somewhere else on the web. Thank you so much Donald for your kind remarks.
Hello Paul, my dear old friend 🙂
I didn’t gone yet don’t worry lol, still following You here as I could, and sure You may have noticed that WN seemed to broken “forever” this time!
You always show through Your words how an aware person You are, and here but another example, some lines stand grandly on Your poem, and Your real rich images make it more acceptable to this always thinking mind, like look here, don’t think and just live the now… short time ago I went again through the circle of universe, existence, creation… etc, not a good feeling if You start this rollercoaster without noticing that You need to pull Your self out of it before it drag You down, I believe “living in the moment, in the now”, is one of the best cures!
Thank You dear Paul for addressing this important subject with Your wonderful style, I hope You and Your family are doing great, and those three little Angels acting angelically!
So glad to see you are still here with me. Family is well thank you for asking. Unfortunate when you hope on that rollercoaster and can’t find your way off. Buy I do agree to live in the now there is no turning back and you cannot fix the past. On another note I’m kind of mad and sad with WN. I better not see any of my material somewhere out there on the web with my permission. Also are you posting anywhere else nowadays??
Here, but when WN returns I will return too.

Lol You will have to excuse this site problem too, for posting three comments from me!
A wonderful poem, Paul. Time is such a remarkable and powerful thing that we just can’t control no matter how hard we try. The best we can do is perfect our time management skills. Man has always had a desire to cheat time, find a fountain of youth and stop aging. He has an infatuation with trying to create a time machine to travel back and forth through the ages. Time just keeps ticking away though, no matter what we do.
Great poem, Paul. Time makes me think about the passing of time. I hope to find a purpose so as not to waste my time; something meaningful in the way of helping others in need. Thank you for this outstanding concert of words you have put together so keenly.
Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughts Tamara much appreciation.
