By The Lake, Exhale

As I exhale the day….
Teased by sporadic gusts,
water rippled like gently aging skin,
and from its banks, light,
catching the tips of the watery peaks,
glimmered, a thousand dying sun reflections.
A patchwork of smooth and rippled skin,
bared the mirror sky and fading embers,
while herons swooped over the golden blues,
nipping at the surface, for treasure,
an evening banquet.
Silence spread like a radiation of speechless gaze,
giving homage to another day,
as deep robust clouds rolled in from sea,
its ebbing tide dragging the mouth dry, separating,
the lake a momentary whole, tucked in for slumber.
And through the clouds, pricks of light revealed,
a reminder of the depth of sky,
a knowing wink from an omniscient eternity,
as darkness made silhouettes,
edged by the fiery last stings of day.
Serenity prevailed,
as crickets barked their rasping monologue,
and the gusts fell silent, relenting,
as night took control, breathed its first breath,
and I, lost to its cause, exhaled the day.

I so enjoyed this verse, Tony. The plethora of ways you can beautifully describe nature just astounds me. Wonderful, serene, lovely verse.
Thanks Phyllis, the beauty is always there to find. Pleased you enjoyed it.
You display your talent of verse like an artist squeezes all the colors onto his palette and then starts to dab and mix the colors to create a masterpiece in his mind. You sir take a picture and turn it into that artistic flow of wonderful visuals, the artist sits there with a keen eye, brush between fingers, white canvas in front and creates what you just described from your pen. Poets and artists are similar in many ways. Loved every colorful word here Tony, well done, bravo.
Thank you sincerely Vincent, for a poet the love of the natural world has to be an ingredient. So pleased you enjoyed this my friend. Cheers!
