Bent…

What heed do I pay,
to the gormless mutterings of ego bent opportunists,
when guile is spread like honey, thick on bread,
oozing, wet, sticky sweet entrails of those splayed,
forsaken in life by the antithesis of self-interest.

How I wish the earth swallow them,
grind their bones for flour,
and all the tribulations caused, be sucked back
from those squashed under their laden feet,
for all their devious plans and harm employed.

So many, their shadow faces blurred in passing,
vile hearts, cold as stone, weaving intricate webs,
for open souls in warmth to fall,
drown in sweet lies, viscous purging life,
all for the favor of gain, in heartless pursuit.

So many live their lives as narcissists, exploring opportunities of gain with disregard for others, their feelings and well being. Worse, often these folks create harm with no empathy at all for those they hurt. Bordering on being sociopaths, they exact their wills without consideration for the consequences. Sad lives indeed.

I agree, Tony, “sad lives indeed.” If only people like that would open their hearts to love and consideration for others what a difference it would make. Your words of wisdom should echo throughout humanity. Great work.

Wow… a very pulsating, energetic poem even in its heat of sadness and anger. There is also, in my opinion, an eroticism tucked beneath the main meaning of its entirety.

It’s often ego filling control. They need to feel the power and continue to suck it from their victims in every way possible. They empty their victims hearts and souls and throw them aside, leaving them empty and stunned. They strive on their narcissus nature. Too many woman are drawn in by these chameleons. For sure sad desperate lives, they have to get their fill. I agree with Tamara there is a surge of eroticism tucked between your lines, subtle but there. Beautifully penned and as always expressed in your fluent bold manner. Bravo
