City Nights

City Nights

When the purple twilight came,

windows like strings of golden pearls would light,

then the magical city night –

would come bursting forth.

Lit up by so many neon lights,

making the streets and boulevards,

look so very inviting –

beckoning me to come and play.

Each night stroller,

trying to adjust to the pulse of the city,

from every restaurant, café and bar –

came a musical beat.

Soft sounds of crystal tinkling,

whispers and joyful laughter,

lovers holding on tight –

sharing kisses in the night.

Daytime masks,

are put aside,

carnival masks,

are worn in the night.

The fast pace of day,

has become a tango,

everyone looking for some fun,

searching for a place to go.

One tends to wonder,

how in the night,

one loses the fear –

of the unknown.

Along like on gossamer wings,

people dance through the night,

there is no fear –

just the pure joy of living.

In the quiet streets,

of neighborhoods far from the crowds,

are still people –

who prefer to dream.

Somewhere behind these walls,

songwriters and poets,

sit muse inspired by the night –

penning golden words.

Those that dare,

like lovers looking to be alone,

will venture in the shadows of the parks,

there to view the stars.

Perhaps upon rooftops,

to be closer to their muses,

they’ll gather inspiration –

from the constellations in the sky.

But in the city center,

the neon outshines the diamonds shimmering above

and the beat of the night –

will go on till the morning light.
