Black Phoebe – The Beauty of a Fleeting Moment
Black Phoebe…
Perched upon a low limb
He bows, ruffling his feathers
Dapper little gentleman
Poised in dress, to impress
Suited up in his best tuxedo
I send him a wink of approval
He twits back, tilting his head
Aware of my keen attention
I want to cup him in my hand
Smooth down the little tuft
Crowning his kind disposition
He carries on with his dance
Diving gracefully, to and fro
Flitting in the sunset’s glow
Our eyes have met, he knows
I admire his way
Black over white
Contrasting a lavender spray
He plays, in Jacaranda blooms
I imagine it’s his wedding day
The sun is nearly gone
I bid him my best, farewell
Grateful for a fleeting moment
Held gently, by wings of purity
The beauty of a Black Phoebe.

Lovely Mel, it is these fleeting moments of observation and beauty that make us realize how lucky we are in life. So well penned and with a lovely light feel, in appreciation of a little gentleman. Great work.
This was a delightful poem, Mel. It is great we can just sit and admire nature and be inspired.
Delightful and lovely verse about your little dapper gentleman, Mel. I can almost see him showing off as you admire him. I love it. Very nicely penned.
This was a gorgeous scene your words painted, I especially loved the wedding day reference, it put a whole new twist on an already lovely scene. Nice work Mel
Nice work Mel, we have a similar bird here called the fantail that acts in the same way. It seems they enjoy the close company of people as much as they do showing off their flying skills. Good imagery in your well expressed verse. Thank you for posting this piece… take care
Thank you Rob, glad that you enjoyed it. I looked up the Fantail, oh my what a darling bird, and the name is clearly appropriate. Thanks for the smile, the are similar in their behavior. 🙂
Thanks to all the lovely comments here, sorry I somehow neglected to respond. Oops.
Best,
Mel
