Afflictions of Ignorance
Scratchy red and chafed affronts,
cool whispers of doorways shut,
linger in the mind a time,
wondering what was missed,
what was so awry,
but often in our shaded moments,
we relent on red flags
and push on forward,
to find our very wants placated,
and hurt the thanks for underrated risk.
What a plan we exact,
when right or wrong, still or act,
and what rewards we reap,
sometimes pain and others sweet
to those lips that refused to shut,
know better than the paths that lead us not
to glory, rather a purgatory of confusion,
to bolster our delusions of knowing,
the sewing we so carelessly uphold,
regardless of the mess we’ve sold ourselves.
Bleached our minds,
yet sun refuse to shine,
and colorless our lives when seen from falling,
mistakes that hurt us sorely disregarded,
for often lessons are ignored by arrogance,
and we the plunder of dark resolves
that we see not amid our wants,
and spend our time observing
self-abuse our calling,
and still we think we know.
Afflictions breed like blowflies,
and directions smart are dismissed
right from the start,
for we in dull repose, know,
and will is just the deliverer of pain,
the reign of a dictator of claim,
but we cannot absolve the sin,
that we are the cause of everything we choose,
and the battles we lose,
just a measure of our ignorance.

And so we suffer the human conditions. Very good life lesson, Tony, and well penned.
PS: “and spend out time observing” is that meant to be ‘out’ or ‘our, or ‘time out’?
Much appreciated Phyllis, and thanks for the typo alert. Cheers!
There is a goods lesson for many of us to learn from your words, Tony. Thanks for sharing your thoughts in this poem.
Glad you appreciated it John. Cheers!
