In the Wake of Lingering Shadows

Followed by the shadows of my dreams,
lingering like specters, near,
I feel the weight of past regret,
fallow grounds unmade, not kept,
and opportunities that fell to doubts,
haunt this sentient mind.
How clouded is a mind,
filled with past and doubts a plenty,
casting shadows over the sun’s new days,
paths of good yet past decayed
does taunt a mind in pursuit,
even though the future is unlimited.
Life is lived in both shadow and light,
and each attributes past and present,
as it is up to us to accept which plight
shall influence our days,
and surely we must live the moments,
treat them as unique, not turn the other cheek.
Dreams I hold are enchanted,
far beyond any reality to bare,
yet without striving for the impossible,
would possible ever reside in consciousness,
ever prove how much we care
and change the future in betterment.
These shadows now are seldom cast,
for they have taught me much,
reminders of past mistakes,
yet not driven to change decision I must
make within my control,
that takes my life to higher thought.

Very expressive. Must agree that in life we do live shadow and light and the darkest of thoughts can haunt us.
Glad you related Rasma, many thanks and take care.
Very deep thoughts here, Tony, and very well expressed. Shadow and light is always there to help us learn and accept. I have come to believe that what seemed impossible at one time can become possible with thoughts that turn life to betterment. Recently I have been given a gift of something I thought at one time would be impossible, and a change came on that has brought peace into my whole being. I always hold on to my highest truths – for there is my life.
So true Phyllis, possibility and limits change as to our perception of them. And yes, in a spiritual life higher thought and understanding far exceeds those whims and desires of flesh and self. take care my friend.
When in search of the light you also find shadows, Tony. You have to take the bad with the good and learn from both. Much food for thought here. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it John. Cheers!
