It’s Going to be a Long Winter

It’s Going to be a Long Winter

A Long Winter…

Praise the day,
for it occurred without me,
I chose nor rejected its rising,
so no accolades please,
the sun’s resonant glimmer,
its chime-like appearance
long gone from my dull repose,
my insular dismissal of light,
here in my chamber of shadow gloom.

Burdened by the morbid death of sunshine,
I waste in the shade of my light,
dimmed to null, in soul and husk I lay,
miserable, and betrayed of day,
now turned to winter’s breathe,
and I bereft of warmth,
watching my heart stutter,
its very sentiments utterly low,
as the sky-less grey a blue no show,
and given up am I.

Bed beckons,
and I in doona-lock,
the shock of crisp air my paralysis,
numbed by dreams
that hold a sun to heart,
a smile upon my face to start,
now looking forward to the icy chills
and frosted window panes,
aches and pains that I didn’t know I had,
and eyes that burn from cold and gloom,
my summer notes now out of tune.

It’s going to be a long winter.

Oh, no! Another winter heading in for you. Hope it won’t be too long till spring comes knocking on your door again. Very expressive verse of winter’s approach, Tony. Hang in there, dear friend.

How many opposing seasons now, have I witnessed knowing you? I always smile at the transition in your poetry with the temperature’s change. I am sure I have said before…I will send you a piece of the coming blaring sun, and you can send me a bit of that cool breeze. Perhaps we will find a comfortable balance. Lovely bit of chill you have expressed here. Enjoyed it! 🙂

    Best,
    Mel

It is weird isn’t it being able to converse with someone on the opposite side of the world, in opposing seasons. Phyllis used to refer to these pieces as my weather reports. Lol, but weather does effect moods and sometimes I have to write about it. take care.
