Am I Wasting My Time?

Am I Wasting My Time?
Am I Wasting My Time?

I sit within a maelstrom,
a turbulent rush of panicked desperation,
as others forge pathways of struggle and impediment,
the pushing of will igniting life into many a fire,
that I by circumstance must put out.

I sit within the eye of this vortex of struggle,
untouched myself, yet watching all those around me
swirling in rapids of discontent,
fighting for themselves against odds,
to be free of their own creations.

Words do not suffice,
viewpoints so opposed cannot see truth beyond want,
and so this stream of unconscious trouble,
slowly consumes those around it,
ever discombobulating minds to panicked response.

I cannot placate the world, no matter how I try,
those who choose this path
do all this harm to themselves,
and make life stressful for those around them,
yet I continue to try and help, for their sake.

Perhaps I am unkind to myself,
daring to touch the maelstrom at all,
for in the end, tis they who choose their fate not I,
and perhaps I in good intentions
add little to the cause.

Yet it is hard to watch loved ones in crisis,
when words cannot erase their pain,
and the lessons they’re learning, are needed,
maybe my understanding falls on such deaf ears,
I am wasting my time.

I don’t think you are wasting your time, Tony. You are who you are, who you were intended to be – an angel on Earth whose way is to reach out and help where you can, where you see the need. Even if you feel your words fall on deaf ears, it does sink in and eventually it works in the way it was intended. Very nicely penned work, dear friend.

I don’t think its a waste of time to certainly try to aid others, its the only kind thing to do. Of course, in the end, people choose their own outcomes, as frustrating as it may be. To be a caring human being is never a waste of time.
    Enjoyed thinking on this one.

    Best,
    Mel

Glad it made you think as often we miss the opportunity to learn when we dismiss circumstances: not our business. There are many sides to this, well worth the thinking. Cheers my friend.
