We Can But Try

What more can a soul do but try,
aspire to be better
in this harsh reproach of a life,
tested on every level,
in every failure: hurt, change and peace,
in every epiphany: hurt, change and peace,
for no label shall dispel the truth,
life is an endless progression,
filled with pain, joy, doubt and learning,
ever pushing bounds to freedom’s call,
until we, in humility,
realize we are at the beckoned call of life,
and freedom comes with that acceptance.
What more can a heart do but try,
broken and abandoned so many times,
goodbye becomes a mantra of change,
and such scars we carry from loves gone by,
the pain buried so deeply
we can feel it with every breath, every sigh,
yet, grow we do, learn of ourselves,
begin to grasp the movement of life’s course,
and in that find peace with the chaos,
silence in the cacophony
and meaning in the words,
however they have given pain,
in love’s sweet name.
What more can a mind do but try,
to assess life for all its potential,
give opportunity a chance
and be vulnerable at a cost,
just to be in the race,
that ever-moving stream of life,
that offers not just smiles, but harsh lessons,
discovery that cuts us to the quick,
when we were so affirmed
and quick to accept the laurels,
the sliding of our humility,
to then begin again, in recompense,
yet the learning is our salvation
in any frame of reference.

What more can we do but try, Tony. In every situation in life that is the best we can do. Very well written piece.
Glad you appreciated it John. Thank you my friend. Cheers! Enjoy your break from moving, a welcomed release I’m sure.
We keep trying, we keep learning till we find our truths and land where we are meant to be. This verse is very meaningful, Tony. Great work.
I was pondering: And all that transpired before was to bring us to where we are now.
So true Phyllis, we are the sum of all we experience. So pleased you enjoyed the words my friend. Take care.
Try, try, and try again. I always say to my youngest, “I don’t know the words, I give up, I can’t do it! What are those words, what do they mean…” and he laughs and laughs, while I manage to redirect his little frustrations in growing. Of course I am easy to advise and support him, when I should be reminding myself. An inspiring piece Tony. I think I will remind myself not to give up, and keep trying…:)
Best,
Mel
Giving up is just stagnation and accepting that life can be difficult puts life in perspective. So pleased you enjoyed this my friend and always happy to hear from you Mel. Take care.
