Till the Hand of Change Prevails

Till the Hand of Change Prevails
Till the Hand of Change Prevails

At ease with the falling leaves,
that autumn where life faces winter,
as the warmth of sun departs
in the aftermath of water under bridges,
and even though much is done,
there’s no relenting from this mind,
to follow all my pursuits in kind,
and relish every moment I am given,
in grace and with eloquent rhyme,
to disregard the mirror’s harsh reminder,
that what I feel is not what I see, in me.

Year upon year falls from crisp pages,
like calendar confetti through the ages,
and numbers roll forward as if on poker machines,
or winding down in heartbeats less and less,
till failing life I must confess does alarm,
beats of heart used up to soon disarm
this life I’ve treasured so,
and all that I know a pledge,
to keep the thoughts alive until the end,
and to know that love is all I ever need,
to find my place and supersede this soul’s long awakening.

Yet there is strength in knowledge,
power in love’s address,
its echoes reminding me I’m whole, not less,
and all I know now cast, my soul has no regrets,
as time blemishes this mortal shell,
the vessel has done well,
and carried me through hell and high waters,
just to know I can, I am who I am,
so life has given its all,
and I did the best I can,
to continue till the hand of change prevails.

    Oh how beautifully worded, Tony.
“just to know I can, I am who I am,
so life has given its all,
and I did the best I can,”

So heart-warming, and your best is phenomenal. Great work.

That wholehearted acceptance of self, through life and time, so well expressed, and flowing beautifully with such candour. Enjoyed it Tony.

    Best,
    Mel
