There does come a time
Hurting echo …

We cannot simply turn our heads in the other direction
without turning our hearts as well
whether the sound of a suffering child
or an elder in the final years of life
there does come a time
Nor when the silent cries of the hurting echo
through the empty halls of family
we just have to find a way
Don’t stand by that door alone and avoid
the pain of self infliction
there does come a time
I once received the best advice ever
to the intervention that was to come
from the man of whom I’d asked
what can I do and he said
“just make the call ”
there does come a time
And though i know there will be anger
I know there will be tears
and I know it will hurt for awhile
but perhaps it just has to to do any good
there does come a time
Now I sit here trying not to look at his hands
for they are shaking in addiction
I’m searching for the words to say
without seeming a contradiction
just make the call
it is time

So true, Ed – there comes a time when you gotta do what you gotta do. Nicely penned verse.
A poignantly rendered piece, about doing what we think it right, in timing and purpose. Nicely emoted and penned Ed, great work.
