Relentless Time, Our Master

The relentless Beat of Life…
Time may be measured,
but never grasped,
never held or capped,
for it is a sacred consideration,
so old yet different in perception,
and it eludes us so often,
its passing so optimized
by wants and expectations,
yet still we abide its secret yield,
and continually measure it to feel
we are in control.
It is so elastic,
feeling short then long,
inadequate then wrong,
its form something else we cannot fathom,
like eternity, time never-ending,
and we utilize it, despise it,
sympathize then imbibe it,
the acceptance of our being,
the now amid what it brings,
and we are lost as to command it,
or even agree with its standard.
And even though it escapes our reason,
we are slaves to it,
our heart beats to it,
our days divided, sanctified by its worth,
and we wear watches,
bare it on our phones and computers,
stealing it as if we were looters,
and eyes attuned to its subtle changes,
our movements attached
as it rearranges our day,
waiting for that stroke of a work day done.
I stand here staring at time in the mirror.

Time and how it gets away from us all – has always intrigued me… Beautiful read Tony
Glad you enjoyed it Kurt, yes time is one of those concepts that we both rely upon and also don’t completely understand. Many thanks.
Great piece and well penned, Tony. Time is elusive, demanding, controlling, feared, yet time with loved ones and friends is treasured. You did quite well on this subject.
Yes Phyllis a subject that can be debated and explored ad infinitum, so pleased you enjoyed the effort. Cheers!
This is a great piece – the elusiveness of time is such a great muse
Agree Ralph, a concept that we still do not full understand. Cheers!
That last line was tremendous Tony. Time, the thing that no one can escape, lest you be a sci-fi master in a TV show. But time…if only there were more of it sometimes and only if it didn’t go so fast at others. Time is ever present at all stops on the emotional spectrum. Great piece.~Paul
So glad you appreciated the work Paul, Cheers!
