Investigating astral accidents
Sitting here in the silence of old memories
I watch as once familiar faces recede into starlit distances
way back and beyond the moons softening glow
though only adding to the mystique
of your beauty
yet I still hold your treasured memory
for posterity
or perhaps for all that’s left of time
I used to wonder if your memory ever
traveled somewhere …….anywhere near mine too
perhaps bumping into one another
and then making silly excuses
for the astral accidental
somewhere in the longest night
perhaps there by Orion
or beside `Pleiades
Now days as I see young and beautiful women
smiling perhaps in invite
No ……simply in kindness to an older outdated man
hoping perhaps for an older outdated kindness
undelivered by some uncaring lover
but they do make me wonder often
Where were you when I was young ?
And I often tell them whenever asked
Don’t worry you’ll have plenty of chances
these are not the last of the dances
just keep that beautiful smile and firm grasp
all will come in time
maybe even arriving out of the night
from a sometimes uncaring universe
maybe even some halved astral accident
bumbling along
waiting for the right half
to show
Is that you ?

It does seem as though sometimes the Fates have missed something somewhere. Does it not, Ed? Lovely verse, my dear friend.
Beautifully emotive Ed and I love the phrase ‘astral accident’. I’d definitely like a few of those. Heart-felt and wonderfully penned my friend.
