Dance Upon A Time
Dance upon a time, like no one is watching
And if they are, it’s quickly forgotten
Those watchers waiting on folded chairs
Knees a bouncing without a care
Waiting there, but who knows why
Single girls and lonely guys
This lesson paves a way to start
Just move to the music in your heart
Take a mental snapshot, hold in mind
An amazing moment etched in time
When everything was groovy, all primetime
When the rhythm finally gets you
You’ll know it’s true, but not sure what to do
Whether in the rain or upon someone’s grave
Dancing with the Devil or Dirty Dancing
Just remember that as old sayings go
Dance with the one who brought you
Will never leave you without a ride home
And if you get the chance to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance, for the sake of nothing more
Wrap your mind around the movement
And your tapping toes will take control
The magic of the music connects with your soul
Waltz, salsa, shuffle, or even rigadoon
Feel the rhythms as you float around the room
Tarantella, twist, ziganka, kazachoc, canary
Bossa-nova, can-can, cha-cha, and merengue
It all depends on your level on energy
Couples, triads, and combination squares
Discovery of what makes you float on air
Pavane, polacca, gavotte, the buck and wing
A cakewalk, bolero, estampie, two stepping
Slow your step for the allemande or flamenco
Light your passion with habanera or tordion
Step lively now, before the feeling goes
Move to the dancefloor, strike your pose
Scan the room for the perfect partner
Not the charmer, but the self-starter
With an open mind and filled with energy
Busting moves nearly effortlessly
Becoming two who move like one
Filled with life, filled with fun
Take a chance, leave the chair
Let your body take you away

Oh! The memories you brought out are wonderful. I was quite a good dancer in my day and I miss it – no way I could make those moves now. LOL Great poem, Ralph. It’s lively and groovy! I love it.
Delightful poetry of many dances and crowded discos. Enjoyed this.
Great Ralph, bringing back many memories. So well penned and enjoyed my friend.
A wonderful poem, dancing sets the mind and spirit free. If you find the perfect partner then the experience becomes great fun.
