Common Sense Being Sold to the Highest Bidder

In pondering how labelling has permeated nearly everything

I chanced upon a thought, one that I clearly couldn’t boycott

Thinking about the pretence to misalign or redefine normalcy

The reducing of common sense to something near ambiguity

Correctness nothing short of an infectious imperfectness

Exemplified attempts to misguide word meanings worldwide

Instance one shows how they’ve spun a false home run

Identification of a thought revelation for modern damnation

Called a hate crime by the bureaucracy and aristocracy

But it doesn’t pass muster, dictated by a lackluster instructor

Hate is something from the mind, so how can thinking be a crime?

Are the thought police making the arrests, as this definition suggests?

Instance two revolves around gender, and the pretenders and benders

Imagine if you called yourself a dog, or hog, or even almighty god

Forced change to known foundations, just to appease imagination

Changing clothes, emerging from the shadows, then impose

Demanding the worlds validation, without proven creation

Boys and girls will stay the same, regardless of surgery or changed names

Borders open, people flowing, no one cares about their comings and goings

The public coffers are out of coppers, and our credit has had it

We can’t pay for everyone, fixes always get undone, scary outcomes

Prison populations overflowing, and uncertainty about where were going

Citizenship valued less, while illegality is cheered by members of the press

Slapping average folks hard in the face, taking their place, and their space

Instance four, and then no more, as enough is enough to show the score

A religion of peace or one of hate, depending on which scale you rate

Good folk surrender without a fight, rather spend their lives in fright

Black clad women and angry men, infiltration and decay from within

Explosions are omens, honor killing an accepted thing, are you kidding

Peace is found in that which is right, morally, patiently, and polite

No more examples, for the obvious is seen, no need to read in between

Common sense surrendered or sold, people willingly controlled

Silver coins and selling ones soul, trampled marigolds on the threshold

Soon another Reich might rise, holocaust troopers, planes in skies

People instead choose to ignore, not keeping score, not guarding the door

Governments playing games, always watching, lists of names

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

There are a few other invented terms and labels I could mention, but best not to as it does not matter. You have some clever phrasing here, Ralph. It seems like every day there is something to “misguide word meanings.” Great work, as always.

You’re right Ralph, where has common sense gone, the world is in such disarray, how can it ever be balanced out? Emotively penned and clever use of words in this statement of human ineptitude and plight.

I’m not sure where this one even came from – it just appeared on the page but it’s growing on me…..

    Ralph,

I know that I definitely could use a second, or third helping of Common Sense. I think I was somewhere else when this trait was being handed out to people because I barely have any.

Your poetry is so artistic, and well-written! I am looking for one of your dark poems to put on my Pinterest Board, along with the other writers I already have there. This is all such high quality poetry!
