Worthy After All

He stumbled through life,
uncertainty ruled his mind,
self doubt and worth abided
his every line to cross,
as thoughts that loomed like specters,
forever reminded him of failure,
and amassed they became
to rule his view of self,
his blindness to potential,
and fear of not achieving
his own meager expectations.
So his potential stayed in shadow,
too dim for light of day,
and quiet he was
to express what he could say,
but in fear relinquished his view,
for what if it were construed to be too arrogant,
or simply not worthy of review,
and so a pregnant silence ensued,
filled with words but not commitment,
and he, like a balloon too filled to hold,
all that he wanted to expose, for all to know.
Then one quiet, peaceful day,
a revelation came his way
and for one moment he realized,
that the written word could fly
without his name or self in light;
and so he began to write,
day and night,
all that mind had construed
came flowing like a torrent,
ink upon a page, in rage and somber tones,
in joyous and ecstatic flights of fancy.
And light he became,
without the burden
of what he wanted to say but did not,
and suddenly he felt confident,
for he was writing truth,
his own minds proof that he was worthy;
and people read his words and were overcome;
who is this soul, this master of thought,
and famous he’d become,
and all wanted to know his name,
see this purveyor of truth.
So he just turned with a smile,
and walked away,
anonymous his words,
for he had gained all he wanted in expression,
and they who read, wanted much more
than he recommended,
and with a life now in balance
he wrote for the pleasure,
under a pseudonym of course,
and his heart was filled with knowing,
he was worthy after all.

The beauty of writing, the joy of words from the heart through the pen is often far easier than the spoken word. I love this verse, Tony. It carries such a deep message that I think many can relate to. Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it Phyllis, we are a complex species, and our decisions in life can be questionable, but there is always hope that we find ourselves and be exactly who we are supposed to be. Cheers!
