A Single Bloom Upon a Dusty Path

A Single Bloom Upon a Dusty Path
A Single Bloom Upon a Dusty Path

The dust upon the road settled,
not even a breeze disturbed the silent stillness,
and souls who had journeyed past
at destinations end, did sigh;
as on this ragged path,
where stones and refuse strewn asunder,
did hinder those with purpose, driven
to travail the burdens of goals,
those obstacles between wants and dreams, realized.

In the dust and stones, the echoes of days,
the hopes and disarray of choices posed,
then attested in circumstance,
be they heavy burdens or lessons uplifting
to change a countenance, a perspective gleaned;
as the dust recounts the moans of sufferance,
the joys of overcoming and fears of possibility,
all now settled upon the path,
the quiet solace of the aftermath of day.

By the path of human travail,
a single flower turns its head to heaven,
its white face a pure vessel of life,
and one would wonder in this dry and dusty place,
what bloom could possibly grow;
Yet within the dust
hope still shimmers like the heat,
and with the tears of those who struggled,
that flower found life.

Life will always be,
even though we often do not see its quiet grace,
and amid the strife and struggle of finding paths,
we may find our direction,
and a flower may whisper quietly,
for us to know just how little our needs,
to thrive in life’s parade,
to yearn for all we’ve dreamed
and tried to make our lives.

    Oh how I love this verse, Tony. There is always hope as the lone flower shows us. Beautiful. An Aunt of mine had a favorite saying I loved: “Grow in beauty where you are planted and reach for the sun.” Wonderful inspirational poem, dear poet.
