Perilous hearts

Perilous hearts

There are some among us who  learned from birth to
forgo the usual  reserve
they are born with open hearts and they give
just as if all do deserve

They smile even though inside  the tears
flood as the waves of incoming tides
and in the end they gave all
and no one heard their cries

I have seen the easy smiles and the soft
touch upon the  hand
but who would think to bring them pain
who will  understand

I have witness the empty souls of  otherwise
healthy lives
Yet why are they there in lonely places
where only a lonely soul  resides

Those soft and gentle eye’s those tangible
lines upon the brow
why are they then left to die alone
even here and  even now

Sometime in my life, I started to write about my life journey, or in poetry, in story perhaps to sort out the missing from the found perhaps and enter them into a place of safekeeping. The soul of the writer is perhaps best described in their own words, emotions and thoughts. If these poems or stories touch something inside you then maybe I have succeeded in sharing. I will not write about my self in profile, because self isn't so important in writing. Only the journey in words and the sharing are important. Why would we say "Now about me!"... I'd rather write about life, nature, serenity ...

“why are they then left to die alone” A question we often cannot answer. I have seen many elders in a hospital I worked in many years ago, die alone after a lifetime of giving. Just a touch of a hand on theirs helped them to let go in peace. Beautiful verse, Ed, yet so very sad.

Life can be seen filled with inequity, yet that is the nature of life and who can say we see from a definitive perspective. great thoughts very well expressed and penned Ed. Well done.

A very sad and expressive piece that is difficult to comment on Ed – on one hand, the poetic beauty of how you’ve described these poor souls and the almost depressing fate some of the most generous people end up enduring – I found such sadness while embracing the depth of the sorrow but admiration for those willing souls all the same. I find myself re-reading it again and again….

A very soft, caring, emotional piece caressing these lost souls, and giving them their peace in their wayward journey!
