Mistakes of the Past Stuck on Repeat

Progressions into the parallel
Matching moments from then and now
Scholars of history
Puzzled by the mystery
People too blind to see
The past once again currently
Distant memories so evolutionary
Yet in reality, more circularity
What comes around goes around
Slipping in without a sound
Ignoring the warnings of the past
Guarantee of what won’t last
Systems of unfulfilled dreams
Awakened from weakened seams
Chiseled out from in between
Erosion seeding confusion
Whispers of another revolution
Another attempted but failed solution
Historically accurate divinations
Timelines written as revelations
Lost in the vacuum of recreation
Repeat, repeat, repeat again
This time we’ll call it another name
Sounds different but still the same
Claims of measured reparations
On the verge of separation
Buried by the regulations
Propagation and exhalation
This time we’ll complete the rhyme
Give us just a little time
Watch progress stop on a dime
Shine the light on our new answers
Glossed over the known cancers
Eating the living while feeding the corrupt
Pretending things won’t erupt
Enough of the circular reference
Judicially a weak defense
Court adjourned unless we learn
Repeat no more, we must repair
Deeply breathing, clearing air
Failure shouldn’t be given rank
Sailing on a ship that sank
Worked mighty great until too late
Refuse to accept it as fate
The mantle of transgressions
Emperors suit of false progression
Sessions of mass debating
All surrounding quickly degrading
Lining up to view the waiting
Comparisons with modern ratings
Haters continue their hating
Blinding every eye that watches
Confining truth with their clutches
Rise and fall and rise once more
Shuffle the deck, change the score
Knowing what’s in store
Mustn’t happen anymore

I write about everything and sometimes nothing at all. I'm fascinated by old things, rusty things, abandoned places, or anywhere that a secret might be unearthed. I'm passionate about history and many of my pieces are anchored in one concept of time or another. I've always been a writer, dating back to my youth, but the last decade has been a time of growth for me. I'm continually pushing the limitations of vocabulary, syntax, and descriptive phrasing.

Nicely rendered Ralph and as the saying goes, ‘everything changes, but nothing changes at all. Beautifully penned my friend.

By the way nice shot of the Roman ruins, and I have walked all those paths, so struck by history immortal. Wonderful place.

Powerful writing here. Comes right at you and so true. I know a saying that goes things change yet everything remains the same. We must learn as we go along. Love these ending lines – Rise and fall and rise once more
Shuffle the deck, change the score
    Knowing what’s in store
    Mustn’t happen anymore

I attempt to reshuffel my deck most every day.

Sadly enough, I think we’re all guilty of the daily deck shuffling Rasma – often it’s unintended, but seemingly just happens. Thanks for reading !!!

Good work here, Ralph, especially on the rhyme scheme and the inner message. You would think mankind would learn from the mistakes of the past but unfortunately they just keep making the same errors over and over again.
