The Deaf, Dumb, and Blind Ones

The Deaf, Dumb, and Blind Ones

Deaf, Dumb, and Blind

Hear they not the roaring silence

That assails their ears?

See they not the unmistakable mirages

With their blind eyes?

Yet they speak with forked tongues,

Spewing the raw sewage

Of “alternative facts”,

Or maybe “true lies.”

Let amiable communication simply rest on its laurels.

The blame game is in full swing.

Name calling, prejudice, and avarice

Have become the socially accepted norm.

Lord forgive them for their sins,

So they can be free to commit others

Without remorse or conscience filled with guilt.

They know not what they do.

Do I relate to the world today?

I think not!

I do not conform or fit into the mould.

Perhaps I am too aware or care too much.

What is this thing “political correctness?”

Let’s just call it “politeness.”

Keep politics out of the discussion

Especially in regard to what is “correct.”

Sadly though it seems,

The deaf, dumb, and blind ones

Are haphazardly pulling the strings,

And we are simply the helpless puppets.

unmistakable mirages

John Hansen

Longtime poet but not in the traditional technical sense. I enjoy rhyme but like to experiment and dabble in many different forms and maybe even make up some of my own. There is always a message or lesson I want to promote through my writing, for that reason, my poetry generally shies away from the abstract and obscure. Now I find myself branching out and experimenting with short fiction, and thoroughly enjoying this, especially flash fiction. I have been fortunate to have two poems made into songs and recorded. The first "On the Road to Kingdom Come" by Al Wordlaw, and the second, "If I Could Write a Love Poem" by award-winning Israeli/British singer Tally Koren. My services increasingly in demand as a freelance writer and I have ghost-written the text for a number of children's books and educational tutorials. It has taken me many years of searching and restlessness to realise that my life's passion is to write. It saddens me that I wasted so many years not devoting to that, but thinking positively, the experiences gained over those years are now wonderful material for my stories and poems. I want to try to bring a new focus on poetry and try to make it appealing to a new generation of young people and those who thought they never liked or understood it before.

Very well stated verse on the issues of the blame game. It is really getting ridiculous here in the US and the media loves to hype it up. Great work, John.

Thank you, Phyllis. The trouble is the media makes everything worse than it would already be. Constantly stirring the pot so to speak.

Phyllis beat me to it John – the blame game is chugging full steam ahead here in America, and the irony of it all is that most of what they are blaming on one another has but a splinter of truth to it. Nice work!

Yes, Ralph, exactly. They accuse and blame each other for this and that without even having the full facts or evidence to prove their claims, and the media loves it.

Nice work John, a clear statement of blame in all things, where no-one takes responsibility. A poignant and well penned piece John.

Thank you, Tony. It fits the current situation in the US, but also here in Australia too. There is plenty of blame being thrown around.

Truth. So much truth. We are the puppets but we do have the choice to not listen. Most mainstream media stations are at fault for many of these altercations, fibs and false accusations nad pretty much pinning parties against one another. These for a lack of a better term, idiots, we have running the USA from Trump and the Republicans to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are destroying the very foundation we are trying to secure. And new channels, instead of broadcasting news as it is, are pushing their own political agenda within the headlines. So much truth there John. Good piece.~Paul

You said it all, Paul. Our political system is following in a similar vein, though maybe not quite as extreme. The media just makes it worse. Cheers.

Thank you, Emese. The politically game is certainly in a sad state. I am glad my poem portrayed the situation and my noughts clearly enough. I greatly appreciate you reading this.

Bitter truth, I must say. Bitter truth. Politics has been viewed as a monopoly these days. Pity! Excellent poem, Jodah!
