In Naked Streets, Down Town

In Naked Streets, Down Town
In Naked Streets, Down Town

The streets are naked,
stripped of all clothing, all color,
raw and bleached of will,
eyes peering out of curtain drawn windows,
passers by in question of violent ill,
while dirt and grime cling to surfaces,
as if to hold onto a tenuous plight,
and graffiti glows under night-lights,
while intermittent fires,
red glow tonguing flames a sight,
flickering light on walls a dancing.

Sombre the mood of souls collective,
hopeless eyes in pensive state,
as light emanates from seeping lane-ways,
where life is shallow with little to sate,
and the muttering of drunken droll remarks,
echoes like a fleeting smile,
but none follows,
just the gibberish of minds to task,
and silence is deep and dark,
light just a peripheral distraction,
from street-life, the harsh reality.

Silence soon becomes the burden,
the thoughts of regret and pain
fill dreams with darkness and prayers the same,
as sleep is found in mounds of paper and cardboard,
rags and home made tents,
a temporary cutting off from life’s intent,
and night drags along,
tossing and turning on unforgiving streets,
while dogs and rats and vermin all,
invade the filth for something more than hope,
in naked streets down town,
where life in little scope does plea.
