Loneliness and Anticipation
Loneliness and Anticipation
The silky blue curtains flung open to a beam of Light, inviting my eyes
To a vivid opulence of stars twinkling incessantly through the window,
As the Moonlight stretched her arms in the night’s endearment…
Behold, O Surabhi, look at the pitch-black sky; the sun has disappeared,
And yet, the Moon does not lose its glory in the darkness,
Instead, it enchants all living creatures with a captivating gaze,
Healing with a peculiar balm of hope and peace…
By looking at you, O silent Moon, my restless mind finds
Consolation in the vast unfathomable sphere, for I feel rejuvenated
To the magnificent sight of you sewing the dark shadows
With luminous rays every night and year –
Since time immemorial!
Separation renders an uncanny loneliness, but your silent moonlight
Caresses myriad hearts, and sometimes crowns them with poetic craft…
You reveal the Truth, O Moon; your pride is reasonable.
You stir my imagination, and by gazing at you,
Poetry conceives in the Heart;
You indeed have billions of admirers…
The blue sky has fallen into slumber,
Where is the flickering candle flame?
Who has turned off the street lights?
Oh! Please tell me,
Am I scrutinizing in vain?
Every street has passed into sleep, and yet,
I wait for the footsteps of my Beloved,
Copious sapphires adorn the velvety sky, yet the milky face smiles all alone…
My situation is like that of a lover; O Surabhi, do catch a sight of it.
There are incalculable stars in the sky,
I live in the hollowness of the Galaxy…
