The Limits of Assuming Anything

The Limits of Assuming Anything
The Limits of Assuming Anything

Assuming is limitation…

Fortune and misfortune are perilous beliefs,
just undulations in the waves of aftermath
our choices marking the scales of extent,
the perceived judgement of good and bad;
investing in such scales of perception is futile,
as life moves as is necessary,
and our judgement the imprisonment
of our circumstances:
as it is thought, so it shall be.

Lives may be lived within these parameters,
and our responses governed by belief:
good, happy content, or bad, unhappy and discontented,
each a limit of our thoughts,
where none needs qualifying, accepting definitively,
for often bad delivers the finest rewards,
good, the greatest pain and suffering,
all within the values we place upon them,
the perspective that clothes our belief.

Should we accept circumstances
as the ever-changing canvas of our will,
we could then not instill any preconceived biases
into our minds, hindering the challenges;
life is a moment to moment preposition,
and judgement just limits life from the outset,
so it is wise to accept whatever happens, with potential,
to learn, to experience, to understand,
and not be caught up in assuming anything.

    Very interesting piece, Tony. Life is full of challenges and to assume anything can lead us astray, away from the truth. I like how you put this into perspective. Well done.

    Pleased you related Phyllis. the fact is that what we expect in life is what we’ get, and I’ve just tried to break the back of that. Cheers!

    This, I know to be so true. ‘as it is thought, so it shall be’
    To me you are like a guru in the power of thought and perception. Judgement and assumptions so are so damaging. Love the line…

    ‘Should we accept circumstances as the ever-changing canvas of our will,
    we could then not instill any preconceived biases, hindering challenges…’

    Excellent, well penned.

    Best,
