This Incessant Yearning

This Incessant Yearning

incessant yearning

This  incessant yearning for man  never subsides
perhaps it never will
I have often wondered
is it but a curse
or is it a wish to never be granted

And although it is only internal and unspoken
I find quiet answers  in places  no one would understand
in the midst of granite stones where timeless human graves
lay deep and long silent
or on salt laden  tidal shores in deep introspection

Although  I have yearned more than anything at times to walk
alongside you who would share
It is okay that I’m mostly in solitude there
And I have read much in seeking the answers
of men who die alone on some  granite ridge

Or perhaps  in a wooden vessel on the high seas
with sails torn and mast broken
And so too the trapper deep in the northern passes
freezing along some river where the ice
flows early and strong

And for a woman too
I’m sure there too lay as much yearning but for other reasons
other seasons that I would or wouldn’t understand
But to come to the stark and simple realization
that we will always be alone
in these incessant yearnings

Sometime in my life, I started to write about my life journey, or in poetry, in story perhaps to sort out the missing from the found perhaps and enter them into a place of safekeeping. The soul of the writer is perhaps best described in their own words, emotions and thoughts. If these poems or stories touch something inside you then maybe I have succeeded in sharing. I will not write about my self in profile, because self isn't so important in writing. Only the journey in words and the sharing are important. Why would we say "Now about me!"... I'd rather write about life, nature, serenity ...

Very well written verse, Ed. I think man and woman are always yearning for something not in their life. I believe most women yearn for a good man, a good marriage, a good life, and spiritual peace and harmony (if they do not already have that). Great work Ed.

Yes, Ed, we are forever yearning for something in our lives. Whether it is our perfect partner to grow old with, success, fame or something else. Maybe that yearning is what keeps us going and driving us on. Nice poetry.

Nicely penned and emotive Ed, of what it is to be human and yearn. As John said, perhaps its what motivates us to go on. great poem, very much enjoyed.
