The Golden Dream That Is Australia

Burgeoning cloud like rolling waves,
tossed and streamed across the sky,
laden with oceans rising mists
to unleash upon the dusty ground;
and pleasured are the faces of dry disdain,
welcoming rain to quench the desert thirst,
those brooding puffs in grumbled scuffs,
prepare to douse in soothing spattering sound.
And farmers stand in teaming rain,
so blessed to feel its passion,
and wilting crops stand tall at once,
the nutrient profound;
as lightning strikes light up the dark,
crooked light from Mother’s heart,
while water weaves its way across the ground,
rivulets of life rushing loud.
Iron rooves like symphonies of sound,
as if metal timpanies so highly wound,
and in waves the tempo rises and falls,
rushing water in furrowed earth abounds;
and life comes to, awakens from a crusty dream,
now breathing in everything,
a dose of Mother’s kindness,
the cycles to complete and beauty bring.
How I love the rains,
and just when all hope is lost,
our skin so dry and at summer’s cost,
in the brown land of our heritage,
where sun is harsh and life imparts its eternal will,
and extremes are just a part,
as weather is worthy of celebration,
here in the golden dream that is Australia.

Oh bless the healing rains that cool the burning land and nourish growth. How refreshing and gratifying the rains can be. Nicely phrased with vivid imagery in this verse, Tony. I can almost feel the coolness of the rain upon my face. Lovely verse, great work. My wish to be in Australia and see all parts of it began when I was quite young – your pieces on your home land bring it closer to me and I love it. Thank you.
A pleasure Phyllis, Australia is indeed a unique place, and like all facets of nature’s expression, beauty in every glance. Pleased you enjoyed it.
That was beautiful, Tony. I can relate to the image of rain in the desert, I could see and feel it through your imagery. I wish I could write like this….
I love Australia, only visited it once, during your winter, and I still dream of returning….
Thank you for a great read.
Glad you appreciated it Emese and thank you for your kind words. Cheers!
I never have been to your country, but it has always been in my bucket list to go. I think you captured beauty.. much enjoyed Tony..
Thanks Kurt, glad you enjoyed it; Australia is a land of great contrasts and I find beauty in all facets of the natural world. Cheers!
We certainly live in a land of extremes, Tony. From long seemingly endless droughts to breaking rain and thunder storms often leading to floods. You captured it expertly.
Much appreciated John, glad you enjoyed it my friend.
Wonderful and thank you for the lovely poetic tour of Australia.
Glad you enjoyed it Rasma, cheers!
