Echoes of My Kin…life carried on

The complex lives that our forebears endured,
are the making of who we are,
like echoes in a vast open plane,
the past rekindles memories often unknown,
yet they strike our hearts,
as if understood, for all those lives before us,
our family, generations passed on,
to live within us all.
And often in times of struggle,
I feel their calming words,
experiences that guided life, so long ago,
as if within my flesh,
understanding within my mind,
woven into a new life,
transcending space and time,
those echoes of my kin.
I see my hands, my fingers,
my shape and I see the faces of my kin,
each a touch in my life, a memory of them,
wound within my being,
every aspect is somehow sewn,
their experience, their loves, and I never feel alone,
for they are all with me,
carried forward into eternity.
Sometimes a warning,
sometimes encouragement,
their echoes resound within,
as if they still lived,
and I treasure their knowledge, their knowing,
and when I feel despondent and without hope,
they offer me a light to take,
a furthering of scope.
Within this blood, a thousand souls,
going back to primordial beginnings,
and humanity does rest within me,
all their lives and propensities,
their dreams and fears and secret goals,
and me, attesting my own,
so that my children will carry on my hopes,
to find worthy lives of joy and love, never alone.
