When there are no words

When there are no words

Jake

The coffee is cooler now than when I  started
in truth I love it that way
when the taste of morning becomes just so
and that is when I reach for the pen
in the presence of such emotion
and then something  just happens
or it doesn’t

It is perhaps though these times when nothing happens
that should serve us the most
when we are alone with our thoughts
our emotions
unable or unwilling to continue
the currency of words has been spent
our literary pockets but empty

The day then to  be spent in the wilds of ones mind
the uncharted territory
or perhaps between the mind and a more
dangerous place
the heart
which is worse a mind with no words
or the heart with no emotion

When there are no words

Sometime in my life, I started to write about my life journey, or in poetry, in story perhaps to sort out the missing from the found perhaps and enter them into a place of safekeeping. The soul of the writer is perhaps best described in their own words, emotions and thoughts. If these poems or stories touch something inside you then maybe I have succeeded in sharing. I will not write about my self in profile, because self isn't so important in writing. Only the journey in words and the sharing are important. Why would we say "Now about me!"... I'd rather write about life, nature, serenity ...

Most expressive poetry Ed. I think the day when there would be no words left to say would be the day that my poetic heart would begin to ache.

Nicely penned and phrased, Ed. Having no words to say would be a nightmare for poets, yet you came up with a good solution and enjoyable poem. Well done.

A quagmire indeed. No words would be awful, but if the heart is void of emotion then the words will hold no meaning…they will just be words. Great piece Ed~Paul

What a great poem, Ed. Love the lines:
“which is worse a mind with no words
or the heart with no emotion
    When there are no words”
