Together We Are Strong

Together we can find peace…
The travesty of assimilation
is hardly surprising,
considering our greatest fears are derived
from difference and change,
and so humanity marginalizes anyone
who is perceived too contrary to accepted norms,
on either religious, philosophical or cultural grounds,
maintaining the divided between
peace and contention.
Much conflict ensues
before the acceptance of change,
and the melding of culture and beliefs
an almost impossible expectation
in a shared living proximity,
thus the existence of war
the ultimate rejection of acceptance,
and the ultimate expression of rage,
the venting of insecurities based on fear of change.
The revelation is
that after much conflict and even death,
assimilation in a cultural sense can happen,
provided there is reasonable compromise,
and in time we all discover
that humanity is much the same,
with a commonality
of values and family and goals in life,
that make us understand our concerns are only skin deep.
Conflict is the bypass of love,
ignoring common ground for contentious judgement
that leads us to tragedy not happiness,
and in the outpouring, the endlessly spilled blood,
no gain is made,
only the tragedy of ignorance,
the hardening of the heart,
and the acceptance of hatred’s vile darkness,
all that holds us back from a glorious potential.

The “glorious potential” is what we all need to strive for to make this a better world. Ignorance and avoiding the truths of what is happening in the world is detrimental to our “glorious potential”. This is a very well-stated, great piece Tony.
Thanks Phyllis, glad you appreciated my thoughts. Take care.
I wanted to read this again, Tony. You have such a strong message here that makes so much sense. As your title states “Together We Are Strong”, and that is what all who want peace and love must do. Thank you for writing this and sharing.
So pleased it made you consider and enjoy my musing. Take care.
