The Volatility of Assumption

The Volatility of Assumption
The Volatility of Assumption…belief a travesty

Tempered by a question posed,
assumptions stand in abeyance,
momentarily disarmed in light of clarity,
yet assumptions can be irrefutable
when they are juxtaposed to belief,
regardless of truth.

How often I have seen lies embraced as truth,
just because its suits the mind,
adheres to some notion,
an assumption of right,
when lies are lies regardless of origin,
regardless of the intention.

Assumption is a reckless belief,
unsupported by truth, yet perceived as such,
and in their wielding a travesty,
a possible injustice that may cause harm,
yet we assume so much,
even base our actions upon it.

Assumption is a fool’s game,
like walking a tightrope over crocodile infested waters,
one glimmer of truth sends the walker to certain death,
at least in belief;
so why do we invest in unproven hearsay,
when even one question can resolve?

We believe those who deliver,
their emotive outpourings assumed righteous in presentation,
yet presentation is not truth,
just a commitment, but to what,
to a manipulation, a vengeance, a plot of covert retaliation,
or simply an assumed reality that simply isn’t.

Gossip and hearsay are dangerous investments,
when truth can be so compromised people can be slandered,
and assuming anything can render problems
that in many ways we cannot mend;
so I say assume nothing,
for nothing good ever comes from it.
