No Words to Say, Just Be

No Words to Say, Just Be
No Words to Say, Just Be

A dexterous touch,
flesh tingling from the cool rush of air,
as day falls slowly and shadows elongate,
herald the oncoming of the gloaming way,
that transformation as hearts a flutter,
feel the turning of wheels,
one cover for another,
as night whispers her sacred promise.

And radiant that horizon,
clenched tightly by silent embers, splayed,
infusing blue with impossible hues
of oranges and gold,
as clouds dressed to parade
the final glow of day,
stretching like wisps of glittered mist,
golden edged, decaying.

And stars hidden beneath the blue,
now find their stage,
and night sky draws itself as the rage
of fallen day subsides,
and lights so old their stories told so long ago,
enrich the dense purple cover,
as segment moon in scarred countenance, pale,
assumes its higher post, a lovers host on high.

The cool now enhanced,
as breezes romance the still and silent night,
deeper and further its endless plight,
infinity in time and space,
as minds gaze into its heart, the questions
and wonder forever the art of thought,
when just a knowing fills the soul,
to look upon eternity.

As crickets sound out,
echo across the shadow-land,
like a reverie to bid the world a pleasant rest,
to nests and hovels warm they go,
invite the slumber and dreams to sew their coming day,
for night now streams in vast array,
the colours of its beauty,
in subtle hues no words to say, just be.

Thanks Phyllis, the trick in each poem of this, my favorite time of day, is making each work different, individual: not so easy. Glad you enjoyed it.

I’d all but forgotten that word the gloaming. Your poem took me on a dream journey. Love the line – as breezes romance the still and silent night for it is the night that most inspires me.
