Ineptitude’s Echo…a question of perfection

Ineptitude is like a gentle breeze,
tainted with the smoke of burning flesh,
a putrid stench that sours fresh
and pristine life.
Yet we of imperfection know,
that no matter how we travail life,
how our intentions rattle the cage of fault,
we cannot be perfect, an illusion of the pious.
Born into flesh, into human ineptitude,
we can but aspire to righteous thought,
yet our darkness does consort,
and drench our intentions with compromise.
We are never free to be our most perfect,
without the dark reality, that in service does expose,
our true nature, our never letting go
of the roots of all human failing.
One sin, akin to no anomaly,
serves our dark master, and that whispered truth
rings eternal, as we aspire to right,
forever knowing that forgiveness awaits.
Forgive we must, for there is no perfection
here on this plane of earthy sentience,
where ego writhes to heights of grandeur,
and the soul cringes in silent hope.
We are born imperfect and die imperfect,
yet it is our hope we will be better for our lives,
for the learning and compromise
that may lead us to higher realms.

Great piece, Tony. I believe if we were perfect we would not be here on Earth, which is a university where we learn as much as we can in the time we have. Without our darkness we would not know the meaning of balance, or strive to be better. I really like this poem. Well done, indeed.
Glad you related Phyllis, I think similarly and view life as a learning path. Much appreciated my friend.
As usual, Tony, your works give me the incentive to really think things through. I believe it is good to embrace our dark side as well as our light side, for balance. Your last stanza is what has me thinking this and I have pondered it before.
Glad it made you consider Phyllis, the real need for balance in life; not rejecting but accepting.
Excellent piece Tony .I think the struggle between the darkness and the light in us teeters us on that bridge of imperfection. But the more comfortable we can get in controlling that dark side to balance with the good within us the better prepared we can be to strive toward that goal of perfection. But the good Lord knew when shaping us, that we were by no means ever going to attain perfection and that our imperfections are what make us beautiful. Great work again Tony.~Paul
Much appreciated Paul, well said and I agree, the range between darkness and light is our domain and this is where we are meant to find our balance and learn who we are. cheers!
