Having To Face Reality

Reality can strike,

sometimes much too close.

You can be feeling,

as if you’re living in a dream,

then suddenly without warning –

reality comes calling.

It’s nice to spend days –

that are relaxing and filled with joy.

Just like a child,

playing with a favorite toy.

They free us,

of all the worry and stress,

but even on the most ideal of days,

something can come back to remind us –

that everything is much too real.

Reality comes crashing into our world again,

it’s easy to pretend and to fantasize,

that takes no effort at all,

but when you have to face,

all that is expected of you –

that is when reality comes calling.

That can take the most effort of all,

it would be wonderful,

if there were days,

when we could put reality –

up on a closet shelf.

Then live our days,

free as birds,

full of fun and enjoyment

and let reality back –

only the day after that.

Reality isn’t an easy thing to face,

it takes a lot of trying,

sometimes even crying –

to live day by day.

I sometimes wonder my friend,

would it be any different if I were you and you were me.

Would we understand each other better

and would your reality be the same as mine?

Life is a journey we all have to take,

to get to the promised golden gate.

Perhaps if we shared a bit of each other’s lives,

reality would be easier to take.

Sharing the love and the problems,

knowing that life isn’t always fun and games,

but we must accept the fact,

that reality is very much –

a part of the life we live.

All so true Rasma, and reality is indeed different for each one of us, dependent upon our lives and experiences. Sharing gives us the opportunity of understanding and a different perspective, as truth evolves in our minds over time. Nicely rendered in verse, those thoughts of responsibility and the reality of living. Nice work.

It is relaxing to be elsewhere in a daydream or imagination – always reality returns when we least expect it, throwing a kink in the lovely day. Great work, Rasma. I so relate to it. 🙂

How lovely it would be to live for a day in the world of imaginations, far away from realities, full of happiness, free from anxieties and where each of our dreams come true…but we all have to face realities, however much we would like to live in a world of delusions..but as you said, facing reality would be much easier if we are a bit more selfless and shared others’ joy and sorrows..thank you so much for sharing this beautiful write dear Rasma..

You welcome Anjana. There are inspirational days I drift off in daydreams making so much harder to return to reality.

They do say we are all different and yet somehow connected at the core. I wish I could take a few days in a daydream, free of life and its everyday toils. You are 100% correct. Reality usually comes crashing down at the time when we least expect it. Good piece Rasma~Paul

Great work, Rasma. Reality can often be a hard thing to face, because in our dreams, fantasies, and even our writing, we can escape to wonderful places where we don’t have to deal with everyday struggles like ill health, paying bills etc. The trouble is we all have to return to the real world now and then.
