For So Many, a Plight…the other side
Perilous flights of fancy
pervade dreams like a dark mist,
as thoughts to the brink of understanding,
writhe within reason in a void unknown,
and vulnerable the soul in this purgatory,
somewhere between life and death,
toying with states of parlous affront.
Why my mind enters this place, I know not,
and as I meet passing souls
wafting like smoke on breeze,
they echo pleas so desperate,
it implores this heart to will them out,
to find the light that holds me still,
in this my dark abode.
Oh dream, you dark fantasy,
so real and near to death is draws me,
why do I entertain its reality,
when I could be immersed in halcyon days,
summer sun and warm thoughts of play,
yet here again I reside in uncertainty,
a candle in the night.
Is this a future, a lost place of insurrection,
a fight I must take to abide my light,
or is it a nightmare fear, a thought of despair,
that keeps me close to life, so clearly death my foe,
and what I know, pulls me to possibility,
an after life sensibility,
I wish not to know.
Sleep so often delivers truths I wish not to be told,
for it aches me so to know the darkness,
but it appears I must, just as light is my comfort,
the darkness yields truths also,
yet I am reticent, lost in light,
but I must acknowledge darkness,
for so many a plight.

In all things there must be balance to obtain harmony. Without darkness we would not know the gifts of light. I love this verse, Tony. It sends a message that it is okay to embrace all aspects of Self. Great work, well penned.
It’s actually very important Phyllis; I learned a long time ago that if you immerse yourself in light only, dark circumstances will follow you until you achieve balance. Its just how life works and all states are truths we must learn. Glad you appreciated the verse. I’m particularly proud of this one.
And well you should be proud of this one. It is a very important life lesson to pass on to others.
So captivating dear Tony..only if we know and understand darkness can we appreciate light..if we take people or situations, they all have a darker side which must be acknowledged..we can pretend that it doesn’t exist, but then we would be running away from the truth rather than trying to conquer it..such wisdom in your own unique, beautiful words you share here.. thank you and have a lovely day!!
