Caught In a Time Warp

They were the youngest couple,

at the senior citizen dance,

they showed them all,

what dancing was all about,

with a special request to the band,

going back in time,

doing “The Twist” with flourish and style.

Caught in this crazy time warp,

wishing they could travel back in time,

always so very young at heart.

They missed the senior trip,

cause they were all going,

to go rowing,

down a lazy river.

The two of them,

went to an amusement park instead,

like in the days gone by,

they kissed atop the Ferris Wheel…

When other couples their age,

sit inside wrapped in shawls,

they’d sit on the porch

and watch the show in the sky –

as the moon would play with the stars.

Holding hands they’d walk,

in quiet solitude,

their hearts always light and gay,

always so many loving things to say.

Afternoon outings in the park,

stealing kisses in the shade of the giant oak trees.

Feeling so as light and easy as,

the gentle summer breeze.

Who’d think they were old,

while swinging on the swings,

trying to see if they could reach the sky,

They never forgot,

to go out dancing once a week,

it was their way of being close to one another.

There wasn’t a day when they didn’t say I love you,

still thinking of you,

listening to love songs,

sitting by candlelight.

Picnics by the river,

two crazy teenagers,

laughing and hugging and kissing –

caught in a time warp and forever young.

Oh! Such a special “forever young” love. A beautiful poem of a couple whose love has lasted and is strong as ever, or even stronger. Lovely! Well done Rasma. I love this poem.

Lovely poem Rasma. Age is but a number. No matter how old, that spark of young love stays at the core. It is adorable to see older couples on a date. I hope that when i reach that age, i could be that kind of romantic. ~Paul

Beautifully written dear Rasma..Isn’t it sad how most of us don’t bother to nurture the flame of love..We take love for granted and so often end up losing it..Here you have described so well the simple things that strengthens the bond of love in your poem..Thank you so much for sharing ..

You welcome Anjana. As long as there is understanding and of course love I think it is possible to go on loving through the years.
