A Winter Land of Snow and Ice

Winter Snow

The winter snow and ice,

has frozen nature in place.

Everywhere silvery white gleams –

under a sky of metallic gray.

Then I often wonder,

how streams and rivers,

have frozen in quite stillness

and I know will come alive in spring.

I see in my mind,

how ducks and geese would swim and play.

How tree leaves would wave in the breeze

and fluffy white clouds rolled by.

Before me stand wintry statues,

of everything that once lived,

giving an artistic like loveliness –

to the snowy landscape.

I understand its nature’s way

and like others,

it too must rest and sleep,

but it makes me incredibly sad.

As much as there is beauty,

to every season that comes,

the stark white and grayness –

of winter make me weary.

I often think,

of ducks in the winter,

who try to waddle on ice,

longing to swim in a stream frozen in time.

With more of winter ahead

and only dreams can take me away,

I look out of my window

and wish for at least one day to be different.

One day of frosty blue sky

and wintry sun shining,

sending shadows across the snow

and rabbits scurrying by.

Meanwhile I’ll be standing on a country road,

gazing up as silvery snowflakes fall,

while beneath my feet,

stretches a blanket of snowy white.

Have never lived through a snowy winter, although it gets very cold here in South Australia. I don’t like continual gray skies and gloom, and even though the winter wonderland would be beautiful at first, I think like you, I’d become weary of it. Beautifully descriptive Rasma and emotive. Right here its as hot as hell at present, but I do understand your plea for sun. Take care.

The first snowfall in winter is pretty. After awhile winter does get rather dreary. I can certainly understand the wish for one day to be different, with some sunshine. Very well penned poem, Rasma.
