Palm Valley, the Remnants of Prehistoric Times

Palm Valley…where dinosaurs should still live…

Palm Valley, the Remnants of Prehistoric Times
Palm Valley, the Remnants of Prehistoric Times

The valley meanders,
cut through ancient stone,
where little water flows over sandy dry beds,
and cabbage palms as old as life,
rise like sentinels from the floor,
their longevity a seeming miracle
in this vast brown land.

In the shadow of the cliff faces,
ferns sprout like giant inverted umbrellas,
their fronds atypical,
unrecognizable, prehistoric,
and all that blooms in this wasteland of plenty
unique, ill-founded in this place of time lost,
where nature forgot to close the door.

I love the silence,
the looming ancient whispers of time,
that hang suspended in the dry desert air,
and each plant and palm seems to reach out
with withered arms,
attesting a time so long ago,
it is hard not to be lost within its dream-time.

This is a sacred place,
the rich brown earth hallowed,
and the aboriginal people of this land,
sit in quiet contemplation of its existence,
its ancestral mythology
and the respect of mother’s care,
here in Palm Valley, one of the oldest places on earth.

Oh how I would love to wander through Palm Valley and feel the sense of being in another time. That photo and you very descriptive words are so inviting. Very nicely penned, Tony.
