One Potential Unrealized

Out of the mouths of babes,
the truths for them are made,
and echo those beliefs in endless rhyme,
to espouse that of their fathers,
perceptions passed down in time,
as beliefs just ramble on,
regurgitation so wrong,
with mindless compliance,
no sign of defiance,
to repeat the contentions
that keep us in this crisis.
What is needed is new thought,
beyond religion,
the very system that enslaves us,
and beyond politics and societal structures
that have held us back,
wealth on the back of the few,
while all else lives
a dream never to be fulfilled,
striving the mantra,
working to better for blood and time,
and to satisfy the monster of so-called freedom.
Don’t teach our children
the lies that keep us still,
teach them to think,
to visualize a better world,
where oppression of any kind is illegal,
where war itself
is a crime for those who instigate it,
and peace a right for human kind,
regardless of political or religious text,
and where rights are upheld,
on moral and compassionate grounds.
Without change we just repeat the mistakes,
keep propagating the lies of past,
the propaganda to keep us powerless,
for the few who want control;
but at what cost to life itself,
falling to war, starvation and disease,
when technology, food and water
are plentiful,
and we see the world in segregation,
not as one humanity,
one potential unrealized.

The potential for change leading to a better world definitely is there. I see high school and college graduates who cannot think for themselves, cannot spell, cannot do complicated or even simple math calculations. They just talk about their daily life and cannot enter into intelligent conversations, do not seem to care about the world situation. It is scary. You are right, Tony, without change the same mistakes are repeated over and over. Your third stanza is spot on as to what needs to be adhered to – I believe the United Nations could be drastically changed to include people who think like you do and can make the changes necessary. Something has to be done now. Great work, Tony, that stirs the mind to think on a global level.
Glad you agree Phyllis, yes change is needed drastically and the developing global problems are many: distribution of food, water and aging populations and lessening work forces will change the direction of many countries in the near future. Take care
