To Live Within the Storm

To live within…

To Live Within the Storm
To Live Within the Storm

Live within, the storms of life…

Solemn roads of windless storms,
portending fears in burden’s arms,
strangle the soft and vulnerable underside,
of ignorance, left there upon its own bequest
from ears unwilling to listen.

They walk the silent, parlous scape,
each step tentative, each moment, ache,
and knowing only that storm is with them,
they cannot reconcile their part,
to only recognise their move and the aftermath.

For sinners know not sin, just the lies,
the life they have written,
darker and darker consequences ascribed,
with every bitter strike they make,
to unhinge the retribution for the hurt they sate.

Solemn roads are walked by fools,
their fate a remedy for their refusal to accept,
the wrongs they do just keep them there,
amid the storms of life’s imbalance,
they themselves have given flight.

And see them we may, amid their dark shadows,
always planning, seeking to disarm,
yet the storms of their life aren’t worth the gain,
just to revel in manipulation a shame,
not knowing what could be instead.

And so they live “the life they have written”, not knowing what joy there could be if only all their senses were open and unhindered. You write such great phrases, Tony. “portending fears in burden’s arms,”. Well done.
